Walk the Wall

'Walk the Wall' in Planning your S/4 Hana Cutover:

Cutover Manager

I was first introduced to the concept of 'Walk the Wall' in 2024 during an S/4 Hana update migration project in Germany. The request from the client was that our Cutover Team map out the high level Cutover Activities on a big wall, and invite all the teams to present their Cutover activities to the other teams in the project. This would allow for integration discussions, identification of risks, open topics, dependencies and optimization opportunities.

Since my first 'Walk the Wall' - our team repeated this process 6 times already in the last year.

The reasons why 'Walk the Wall' is so helpful for refining the Cutover plan are:

1. The project streams get the opportunity to present their Cutover tasks to other streams, thereby familiarizing themselves fully with the Cutover plan and their own responsibilities as a key element to the success of the Cutover.

2. When all streams get together and present their activities to other streams, this triggers important integration discussions - for example interface dependencies and opportunities for parallel activities.

3. Streams get the opportunity to insert new activities into the plan or change the timing of tasks presented during the meeting, thereby optimizing the cutover planning with alignment of all stakeholders present.

I can highly recommend this exercise to any firm currently planning their S/4 migration to fine tune their Cutover planning.

Be assured that our Bluerobe Cutover Managers stand ready to assist you in case you need assistance.
